WinnMed is adding Megan Slattery, D.O., to its medical team at the end of August 2026, giving patients in the Decorah area another option for family medicine, obstetric services and inpatient care as a hospitalist.

Appointments with Slattery can be requested by calling 563-382-2911 or through MyChart, according to WinnMed.

A broad range of care for Decorah-area patients

Slattery will practice full-spectrum family medicine, a model that serves patients across ages and stages of life. Her work will include primary care, obstetric care and treatment for patients who are hospitalized at WinnMed.

Family medicine clinicians commonly provide preventive care, help manage chronic conditions, support patients’ wellness goals and coordinate treatment with specialists when needed. WinnMed’s family medicine service serves patients in Decorah and also operates outreach locations in Ossian, Mabel and the Luther College campus clinic.

Slattery has a particular interest in incorporating exercise and nutrition into health planning. She also plans to provide community education focused on health and wellness, adding a broader public-health component to her clinical work.

Training and ties to northeast Iowa

Slattery is an Iowa native and an Iowa State University alum. She attended A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, and completed her family medicine residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.

WinnMed said Slattery was attracted to northeast Iowa because rural medicine allows physicians to build relationships and provide continuity of care. During a visit to WinnMed, she said the organization’s commitment to high-quality care and the community’s support for its local health system stood out to her.

“When I first visited WinnMed, the dedication among staff and the genuine support for the health system from the community were evident,” says Dr. Slattery. “I could immediately see myself as part of the team, and I am grateful to be joining a health system that shares a commitment to providing high-quality care close to home.”

She also cited being close to family as an advantage of the move.

“It’s an added bonus that family isn’t too far away!”

Focus on individual health goals

Slattery said she takes a whole-patient approach, considering the different factors that can affect a person’s health before working with each patient on individual goals. She uses evidence-based information to guide education and care.

“I provide care with a whole-patient approach, recognizing there are many factors that play a role in our health and wellbeing. I work with my patients to address and meet their health goals, using evidence-based information to provide education and guide care.”

Outside of medicine, Slattery enjoys spending time with her fiancée and dog. Her interests include running, biking, hiking, reading and cheering for the Iowa State Cyclones.
