Readers in Decorah and beyond can join Vesterheim from home this November for a free online discussion of Henrik Ibsen’s 1888 drama Lady From the Sea. The monthly Bokprat program is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time.

Attendance does not require a fee, but participants must register in advance through Vesterheim’s event listing. The discussion will take place on Zoom, allowing readers to participate from home rather than travel to the museum.

What Vesterheim’s discussion will examine

Ibsen’s play follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Wangel is a widower with two daughters and becomes increasingly concerned as Ellida grows anxious and begins behaving strangely.

As the drama unfolds, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in an effort to help Ellida. The play considers the pressures that love can place on a person’s heart and the difficult choices that may follow.

A monthly online book group

“Bokprat” is Norwegian for book group. Vesterheim’s recurring series focuses on Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life, giving participants an ongoing online community for discussing literature.

The Nov. 11 session is open to readers in Decorah and elsewhere. Those interested should complete the required registration before the discussion.
