Decorah readers will be able to discuss a classic Scandinavian drama from home this November when Vesterheim hosts a free online Bokprat session focused on Henrik Ibsen’s 1888 play Lady From the Sea.
The discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time. The program will be held on Zoom, so participants will not need to travel to Vesterheim’s museum in Decorah to take part.
How to join Vesterheim’s November Bokprat

What the discussion will explore
Ibsen’s drama follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Doctor Wangel is a widower with two daughters, and he becomes increasingly concerned as Ellida grows anxious and begins behaving strangely.
As the play develops, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in an attempt to help Ellida. The story examines the pressures love can place on a person’s heart, along with the difficult choices that can result.
Bokprat, Norwegian for book group, is Vesterheim’s recurring online series about Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life. The monthly program gives participants an ongoing online community for discussing literature.
Readers interested in the Nov. 11 conversation should complete the required registration before the event. Vesterheim’s Zoom format allows participants to join from home in Decorah or from elsewhere.
