Readers in Decorah and beyond can take part in Vesterheim’s November Bokprat from home when the museum hosts a free online discussion of Henrik Ibsen’s 1888 drama Lady From the Sea on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.

The Zoom program is scheduled for 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time. Anyone planning to attend must register in advance through Vesterheim’s event listing.

What the discussion will explore

Ibsen’s play follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Wangel is a widower with two daughters, and he becomes increasingly concerned as Ellida grows anxious and behaves strangely.

Concerned about what may be affecting Ellida’s mental health, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in hopes of helping her. The drama examines the pressures love can place on a person’s heart, along with the difficult choices that can follow.

A monthly online book group

“Bokprat” is Norwegian for book group. Vesterheim’s monthly series focuses on Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life, giving participants a recurring opportunity to discuss literature in an online community.

The Nov. 11 program is open to readers in Decorah and elsewhere. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required before the discussion.
