Readers in Decorah and elsewhere can join Vesterheim online Nov. 11, 2026, for a free discussion of Henrik Ibsen’s Lady From the Sea, an 1888 drama centered on love, anxiety and difficult personal choices.
The November Bokprat will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time on Zoom. Registration is required, and participants should sign up through Vesterheim’s event listing before the discussion.
What readers will discuss
Ibsen’s play follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Wangel is a widower with two daughters, and he becomes increasingly concerned as Ellida grows anxious and behaves strangely.
Worried about what may be affecting Ellida’s mental health, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in hopes that he can help. The resulting drama examines the pressures love can place on a person’s heart and the difficult decisions that may follow.

“Bokprat” is Norwegian for book group. Vesterheim’s monthly series focuses on Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life, giving participants a regular opportunity to discuss literature in a shared online setting.
