Readers in Decorah and beyond can join Vesterheim for a free online discussion of Henrik Ibsen’s Lady From the Sea on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. The November Bokprat will run from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time on Zoom.

Registration is required for the class. Vesterheim’s monthly bokprat—Norwegian for book group—focuses on Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life, giving participants a regular opportunity to discuss literature in a shared online setting.

About the November book

Written in 1888, The Lady from the Sea follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Doctor Wangel is a widower with two daughters, and he becomes increasingly concerned as Ellida grows anxious and behaves strangely.

Worried about what may be affecting Ellida’s mental health, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in the hope that he can help. The resulting drama explores the pressures that love can place on a person’s heart and the difficult choices that can follow.
