Decorah readers will have a chance to discuss Henrik Ibsen’s classic Scandinavian drama Lady From the Sea from home this November, when Vesterheim hosts its next online Bokprat gathering. The free program is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Central time.

The discussion will take place on Zoom rather than at Vesterheim’s museum in Decorah. That means participants can join without traveling to the museum, whether they live in Decorah or elsewhere. Advance registration through Vesterheim’s event listing is required.

About Ibsen’s “Lady From the Sea”

First published in 1888, Ibsen’s drama follows Ellida and Doctor Wangel, a married couple. Doctor Wangel is a widower with two daughters, while Ellida becomes increasingly anxious and begins behaving strangely as the story develops.

Concerned about Ellida, Doctor Wangel asks his former headmaster, Arnholm, to visit in an effort to help her. The play explores the pressures that love can place on a person’s heart and the difficult choices that may follow.

Vesterheim describes Bokprat as Norwegian for “book group.” The recurring online series focuses on Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life, giving participants an ongoing online community for discussing literature. The Nov. 11 session will continue that series with a conversation about Ibsen’s drama.
